The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national level scholarship program in India to Identify and Nurture talented students. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship for a entire academic career. The scheme’s official name is National Science Talent Search (NSTS), and is open to student of Indian National only. Students studying in class X standard are eligible to appear for the selection process. There is a two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage I, selection will be done by States/UTs through the written examination. Each State/Union Territory has been alotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination.
STAGE I
Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics. There are 180 objective questions with single correct answer and no negative marking.There are 90 Questions in MAT section and 90 Questions in SAT section. Total time allotted will be 180 minutes i.e. 3 hrs. TO qualify in the 1st stage one has to score above 145, although it varies from state to state.
The first stage exam is conducted on the 3rd Sunday of Nov. every year.The exam pattern of stage 1 is same in all states. those who come in the merit list of stage 1 will get opportunity to write stage 2 level exam in the month of May following year.
