Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana or KVPY is a National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The overall responsibility for organizing and running the KVPY Program has been entrusted to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
IISc releases the advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
Aspirants who qualify KVPY receive a monthly scholarship up to pre Ph. D. level, which is fixed to Rs 5000 per month during the first three years and Rs7000 per month during the 4th and 5th year of their study in the field of basic science.
KVPY has the 3 streams namely,
• SA: Students in Class 11 can appear in this stream
• SX: Students in Class 12 can appear in this stream
• SB: Students studying Science in the first year of graduation can a for this stream
SYLLABUS AND EXAM PATTERN
Exam is conducted in online mode (Computer based test), in both English and Hindi language, throughout India on the same day and time. Exam is conducted in two slots one for SA stream and other for SX & SB stream. Both the slots are of 3hrs and comprises of 80 questions grouped as Part1 and Part2. All the questions are compulsory to attempt in Stream SA. Whereas in Stream SB/SX there is an option to attempt any three sections in PART I & any two sections in PART II. All the questions are of type multiple choice and have negative marking.
For SA stream,
Students need to answer questions from all 4 subjects namely, PCMB. Each subject has 2 parts, part 1 comprising of 15 question, which +1 marks are awarded for correct answer and .25 deducted for wrong answer; and part 2 wherein there are 5 questions carrying +2 marks for correct response and -0.5 marks for incorrect response.Number of Questions in Part I = 60
